However, Miss Earrings recently posted about sparklers not being allowed in her neck of the woods. As soon as I read her post I had a sinking thought, or more specifically, "Crappers! Before I order sparklers, I better confirm that they're allowed." After a quick e-mail, my hunch was confirmed: no sparklers in the state of Rhode Island. Oh, Rhody, say it ain't so.
I was CRUSHED. Seriously crushed. This has quite possibly been my single most discouraging wedding-must-have-moment turned disappointment.
I started doing gobs of research on "non-flaming sparklers", light up wands, and all sorts of alternatives. None of the options were particularly - for lack of a better word - classy. Everything I stumbled upon seemed to belong at a sports arena or a circus. Not exactly how I wanted to exit my wedding. But then, one day a few weeks ago, I found this:

Erin from blueeyedbride's ribbon wands. I was getting closer. Then came my "a-ha!" moment. I needed to add something with a little metallic glimmer so they would catch the light. Mr. Seashell and I hit the Home Depot and JoAnn Fabric & Crafts on Saturday.
Check out this glue gun action. And I call myself a crafting-moron? Ha!
After getting a good amount of hot glue on the end of a dowel, I crumpled a bunch of tinsel to create my "Sparkle Wands".
And here they are!
In the end, no, they're not my beloved sparklers. But, they're definitely a decent substitute. They're reasonably sparkly, and I think they'll make for some fun "send-off shots" as we depart our wedding. For those of you who live in places where sparklers are allowed: I envy you like crazy. Lucky ducks.
